Welcome to Missouri!

I’ve driven around this country a lot in my life and whether in the passenger of driving seat, I’m starting to realize how much a person misses speeding along the road.

Walking across this country has given me the ability to take the time to see and appreciate just how beautiful this land is. Whether it be by stopping on the side of the road to watch the stars and stripes of our flag shine in the sunlight amongst endless green or the warm embrace of two strangers who just want to give me a warm bed and the feeling of home for a short while – America, there is a reason you are called the beautiful and I feel so lucky to be able to take the time to appreciate that.

This past week I crossed another border into the great state of Missouri. I don’t know what it is about Missouri but it’s something I’ve placed on a pedestal since the start. But like any goal, I had to work for this one – until the very end. The bridge on my route across the Mississippi River to enter Missouri was closed for construction, which meant Thule having to go through some construction. But nonetheless, I have arrived.

This is my fourth state and about a third of my walk across the USA.

I have to once again thank Kentucky for all your kindness through a very tough time on my walk. All the people in this beautiful state motivated me to get back on the road and continue my journey. I also have to thank all the wonderful people who have asked about my journey recently and been nice enough to by me a meal after hearing my story. I need to send a special shout out to Stacy and Toby for welcoming me into their home and even preparing a steak dinner for me! You two are great friends and I am so happy to have met you.

This time it’s not as much me, but Thule that needs a rest. We are shacked up in a hotel for the next few days taking a break while this heavy storm passes through. Thule got a new wheel and I got lots of snacks, so we’ll be rested and ready to carry on through Missouri very soon!

… MISSOURI! Daniel Boone lived and died in Defiance, Missouri (on my list of states I would like to visit in the near future). His final resting place is in Kentucky – he was born in Pennsylvania. I can see on the map you have been through, or going through, Mark Twain National Forest. Mark Twain was born in Florida, Missouri.

You must have walked over a 1000 miles at this point. I hope all is going well. Enjoy reading your postings.

    In Christ Jesus always!
